The CRA applies to products with digital elements placed on the EU market - including software components shipped in connected vehicles where they're separately commercialized. Vehicle-type approval is governed by UNECE WP.29 R155/R156, but CRA still touches OEM and supplier software supply chains: SBOMs, vulnerability handling, and incident reporting obligations apply to the underlying software components regardless of the vehicle type-approval framework.

Why is OSS governance crucial for SDV programs specifically?+

Modern vehicle software stacks are heavily OSS-based - Linux kernels, AUTOSAR adaptive components, middleware libraries, AI/ML model dependencies. Every OSS dependency carries license obligations and vulnerability exposure that propagate through the supply chain to OEM type approval.
